Specifically, the bill requires that these telehealth services are considered billable at the same rate as in-person visits when provided by the same organization. FQHCs, RHCs, and CMHCs are now explicitly recognized as both originating and distant site providers for telehealth services, which means they can be reimbursed for both providing and receiving telehealth services. This change aims to ensure equal compensation for healthcare providers delivering services remotely, potentially improving access to healthcare services, especially in rural or underserved areas where in-person visits might be challenging. The bill will take effect on July 1, 2025, giving healthcare providers and the Medicaid system time to prepare for the implementation of this new reimbursement approach.
