This bill amends the Line of Duty Act to expand benefits for beneficiaries of deceased law enforcement officers, firefighters, and other public safety workers. Specifically, the bill adds a new provision that allows beneficiaries to receive a $25,000 payment (increasing to $75,000 after January 1, 2025) if the deceased person died from certain cancers within 10 years of retirement. This is an expansion of the existing law, which previously only allowed such payments if the death arose out of employment or occurred within five years of retirement.
