This bill creates the Fallen Military Service Members Bridge Committee, a new state committee tasked with honoring military service members who have died in service by naming bridges and overpasses after them. The committee will consist of three members: the director of the Department of Transportation (who will serve as chairman), the Adjutant General, and the Commissioner of the Department of Veterans' Affairs. The committee will establish an application process for the public to submit nominations, and will meet annually in October to select up to six nominated service members to be honored. The Department of Transportation will provide administrative support for the committee. After selecting nominees, the committee will work with veterans groups and families of fallen service members to design signage, plan installation dates, and organize dedication services. The department is also authorized to accept donations of signs or funds to support the signage efforts, with any donated funds being continuously appropriated for this purpose. This initiative aims to create a meaningful way to recognize and remember military service members who have made the ultimate sacrifice for the United States.
