This bill appropriates a total of $44 million from the general fund to the New Mexico Department of Health for fiscal year 2026 to support county and tribal health councils statewide. Specifically, $43 million will be allocated directly to these health councils to fund a wide range of activities, including staff salaries, expanding service capacity, improving operational functions, coordinating essential services with state agencies and healthcare organizations, increasing community outreach and engagement, advancing public health prevention and education efforts, facilitating healthcare stakeholder collaboration, supporting health equity policy advocacy, and covering operational expenses like office overhead, travel reimbursements, and supplies. An additional $1 million will be used by the Department of Health to contract with a nonprofit organization to provide training and technical assistance to these health councils. Any unused funds at the end of fiscal year 2026 will be returned to the general fund.
