This bill amends Mississippi state law to add Mississippi Land Bank to the list of organizations that can have distinctive motor vehicle license tags. Specifically, the bill modifies two sections of the Mississippi Code: Section 27-19-56.549 and Section 27-19-44. Under the new provisions, Mississippi residents who support the Mississippi Land Bank can obtain a special license tag for their vehicle by paying an additional $30 fee on top of regular registration costs. Like other distinctive license tags in Mississippi, at least 100 of these tags must be purchased before they can be issued, and the majority of the additional fee ($24) will be distributed to the Mississippi Land Bank. The bill sets a three-year timeline for the organization to meet the 100-tag minimum requirement, and if successful, the license plate will be available for Mississippi vehicle owners to purchase. The new license tag will become effective on July 1, 2025, allowing the Mississippi Land Bank to begin the process of creating and marketing the distinctive tag to its supporters.
