This bill modifies the eligibility criteria for the Oregon Promise program, a state grant that helps students attend community colleges. The key changes include removing several previous restrictions on student qualification. Specifically, the bill eliminates requirements that students must: receive their highest level of education within six months of enrolling, complete high school in Oregon, and maintain a 2.0 grade point average in high school. Instead, the bill expands program eligibility to include students enrolling in applied baccalaureate degree programs or Bachelor of Science: Nursing degrees. Students will still need to be Oregon residents, complete and submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid, accept available state and federal aid grants, and not have completed more than 90 credit hours or a previous degree.
