This bill establishes a memorial plaque program to recognize Senator Peter Courtney's contributions to seismic rehabilitation funding for schools in Oregon. Under the bill, the Oregon Business Development Department is required to create and distribute memorial plaques to qualifying schools, which are defined as K-12 educational buildings that have received seismic rehabilitation funding from the Education Seismic Fund since January 1, 2009. The schools that receive these plaques must prominently display them in a location easily visible to visitors and mount the plaques within one year of receipt. The department is mandated to distribute the plaques by January 1, 2028, and an unspecified amount of funding will be appropriated from the General Fund to support this initiative. The bill also requires that future seismic rehabilitation grant recipients use a portion of their funds to create memorial plaques. The legislation will take effect 91 days after the adjournment of the 2025 regular legislative session, and the specific provisions related to the memorial plaques will be repealed on January 2, 2028.
