This bill creates the Veterans' Benefits Economic Development Fund, a new fund within the Oregon State Treasury specifically designed to help veterans, their spouses, dependents, and survivors more easily access federal and state veterans' benefits and aid. The fund will be continuously appropriated to the Department of Veterans' Affairs and can be invested like other state funds, with any earned interest credited back to the fund. For the 2025-2027 biennium, $10 million will be allocated from the Administrative Services Economic Development Fund to initially support this new veterans' assistance program. The fund has a sunset provision, meaning it will automatically be repealed on January 2, 2035, at which point any remaining unobligated funds will be transferred to the Administrative Services Economic Development Fund. The primary goal of this legislation is to further economic development by providing targeted assistance to help veterans navigate the often complex process of applying for benefits they are eligible to receive.
