This bill amends North Dakota's agriculture infrastructure grant program by modifying which local government entities can receive grants for road and bridge improvements. Previously, grants could be awarded to any political subdivisions, but now the grants will be specifically limited to counties, townships, or cities with populations of 1,500 residents or less. The grants can be used for two primary purposes: corridor improvements on city, county, and township roadways, and improvements to roads or bridges that provide access to value-added agriculture businesses. The agriculture commissioner will continue to award these grants in consultation with the director of the department of transportation, maintaining the core purpose of supporting infrastructure that facilitates agricultural economic development by improving transportation routes near agricultural businesses.
