This bill establishes two new grant programs to enhance high school education in Indiana: the Real World Readiness Grant Program and the Personal Financial Responsibility Curriculum Grant Program. The Real World Readiness Grant Program will provide funding to public and accredited nonpublic high schools to develop learning opportunities that better prepare students for life after graduation. These opportunities include integrating real-world business challenges into curriculum, creating engaging learning experiences, developing critical workforce skills, providing career exploration, and ensuring access to high-quality education for students from diverse backgrounds. Schools can apply for grants independently or through partnerships with approved external organizations. The program will be administered by the Indiana Department of Education and funded through state appropriations, gifts, and grants. Similarly, the Personal Financial Responsibility Curriculum Grant Program will provide grants to eligible schools to develop or adopt financial literacy curriculum for students in grades 8-12. Schools can apply to receive funding to create or partner with external organizations to implement financial education programs. Both programs require grant recipients to report student outcomes and success metrics, and the department will develop guidelines for selecting partner organizations and awarding grants. The programs are set to take effect on July 1, 2025.
