This bill amends Tennessee state law to make two primary changes affecting state employees. First, it expands the list of state entities whose employees are excluded from standard state service to include the Tennessee sports wagering council and its employees, full-time board members of the board of parole, and full-time board members of the inmate disciplinary oversight board. Second, the bill modifies bereavement leave provisions for state officers and employees, creating a more structured approach to paid leave when a family member passes away. Specifically, state employees will now be entitled to 3 days of paid leave for the death of siblings, grandparents, grandchildren, foster parents, or parents-in-law; 5 days of paid leave for the death of parents or stepparents; and 10 days of paid leave for the death of a spouse, children, or stepchildren. These new bereavement leave days will not be charged against the employee's accumulated leave accounts, providing additional support during difficult personal times. The bill will take effect immediately upon becoming law, with the goal of enhancing employee benefits and support.
