AI Summary

This bill amends the Illinois Parentage Act of 2015 by modifying the language around choice of law in determining parent-child relationships. Specifically, the bill changes the existing provision that stated applicable law does not depend on a child's place of birth or residence to now state that applicable law may depend on these factors. The bill clarifies that Illinois courts shall apply Illinois law, including rules on choice of law, when adjudicating parent-child relationships. This means that courts will have more flexibility in considering a child's birth location or residence when determining parentage. The legislation maintains that the Parentage Act does not create, enlarge, abrogate, or diminish parental rights or duties under other existing laws of Illinois. The bill will take effect immediately upon becoming law, which provides courts with immediate guidance on interpreting parentage issues.
