This bill requires the North Dakota Department of Health and Human Services to determine the military status of individuals involved in child abuse or neglect assessments. When an assessment involves a military-affiliated individual (defined as someone with active military status or their dependents, including members of any branch of the United States military, national guard, or reserve), the department must notify the nearest military installation's family advocacy program about the allegation and investigation. The military installation will then be responsible for reporting the data to the federal Department of Defense. The department may also develop a memorandum of understanding for use by human service zones to facilitate this process. This legislation aims to ensure that military-connected families receive appropriate attention and support during child abuse and neglect investigations, while also creating a standardized notification process between state and military authorities.
