This bill authorizes the Magistrate Court of Cook County to charge a technology fee of up to $5.00 for each civil action filed, with the funds specifically dedicated to technological improvements for the court. The technology fee can only be used for purchasing computer hardware and software, leasing and maintaining computer equipment, and acquiring imaging, scanning, communication, projection, and printing technologies. The collected funds must be kept in a separate account subject to audit by a county-approved auditor. The technology fee authorization will expire on July 1, 2030, after which any remaining funds will be dedicated to general Cook County technology uses. If the court determines there is a surplus of funds, the chief magistrate may transfer the surplus to the county's governing authority once per year.
