This bill amends the New York General Business Law to require telemarketers who maintain multiple do-not-call lists to add a customer's telephone number to ALL of their do-not-call lists when the customer requests to be added to any one of those lists. Currently, telemarketers might have different do-not-call lists for different purposes or campaigns, and a customer's request to be added to one list might not automatically apply to the other lists. The new provision ensures comprehensive protection for consumers by mandating that when a customer wants to stop receiving telemarketing calls, their number must be removed from every do-not-call list maintained by that particular telemarketer. This change aims to simplify the process for consumers and provide more robust protection against unwanted telemarketing calls. The bill will take effect immediately upon enactment.
