This bill expands the definition of a "covered person" who can restrict access to their home address on a local government's public property database website to include two additional professional categories: public safety telecommunicators and 911 emergency call dispatch center administrators. Currently, the list of covered persons includes judges, law enforcement officers, address confidentiality program participants, public officials, surviving spouses of officers killed in the line of duty, department of child services employees, current or former probation and community corrections officers, and firefighters (both regular and volunteer). The bill also adjusts the numbering of the list to accommodate these new additions. By adding these professionals, the legislation recognizes the potential safety risks faced by emergency communications personnel and provides them with a mechanism to keep their home addresses private. The changes will take effect on July 1, 2025, and are an amendment to the existing Indiana Code section governing address confidentiality.
