This bill amends the New York labor law to establish a mechanism for periodically updating the monetary value of certain farm worker benefits that can be counted toward minimum wage requirements. Specifically, the bill allows meals, lodging, and utilities provided to farm workers to be considered part of their minimum wage compensation. The New York State Department of Labor is required to publish updated allowance amounts for these benefits every five years, starting in December 2025, using a cost of living adjustment calculator. These updated allowance amounts will then take effect on the following January 1st. The purpose of this bill is to ensure that the value of these non-monetary compensation items keeps pace with inflation, providing farm workers with more stable and fair compensation over time. The bill will go into effect 30 days after it is signed into law.
