This bill requires the Empire State Plaza Art Commission to recommend new names for the four agency buildings located at the Empire State Plaza, with those names to be selected from a list of major rivers in New York State. Specifically, the commission must collaborate with the commissioner of general services to create a recommendation that considers the historical significance of these rivers, which include the St. Lawrence, Genesee, Alleghany, Hudson, Niagara, Susquehanna, Chenango, Mohawk, East, and Harlem rivers. The governor is then required to choose the new building names within 60 days of receiving the commission's recommendation. The bill expands the existing responsibilities of the Empire State Plaza Art Commission by adding this naming process as a new duty, and the act will take effect 180 days after becoming law. The commission is immediately authorized to create any necessary rules or regulations to implement this new requirement.
