This bill modifies Arizona's existing law regarding manufacturer license plates for unladen trucks and passenger vehicles by making a small but important change to the documentation requirements. Currently, manufacturers can use special test license plates on certain vehicles, and the bill adds a provision allowing alternative documentation of vehicle use. Specifically, the bill permits "other evidence of a contract and designation" to be kept inside the vehicle as proof of authorized use, in addition to the existing record-keeping requirement. This means that if a manufacturer wants to allow a full-time employee, contracted person, or designee to use a manufacturer's test license plate vehicle, they can now show a contract or designation document within the vehicle as proof of authorization. The bill maintains existing restrictions on using these plates, such as prohibiting their use on leased vehicles, vehicles carrying more than 300 pounds of cargo, work vehicles, sold vehicles, or laden cargo vehicles. The amendment provides more flexibility in documenting the authorized use of manufacturer test license plates while preserving the original intent of the law to limit these plates to specific business-related uses.
