This bill requires all public high schools in Arizona that sponsor athletic teams or sports programs to provide and maintain an automated external defibrillator (AED) in easily accessible, clearly marked locations that can be retrieved within three minutes at each school-sponsored athletic event, starting August 1, 2026. Additionally, the bill mandates that each coach must complete a comprehensive training course in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), first aid, and AED use, following nationally recognized emergency cardiovascular care guidelines. Schools are permitted to accept gifts, grants, and donations to help cover the costs of purchasing and maintaining AEDs and providing required training. To support implementation, the state will appropriate $500,000 in fiscal year 2025-2026 to the Department of Education, which will distribute funds to schools with a total ending cash balance of $5,000,000 or less.
