This bill modifies Utah's state parks veteran access program by replacing a temporary pilot program with a more permanent discounted annual pass for veterans. Specifically, the bill requires the Utah Division of State Parks to offer a discounted annual day-use pass to state parks for veterans who are state residents and have been generally or honorably discharged from military service. The discount must be at least 25% off the regular annual day-use pass price. The bill also replaces a previous pilot program that was set to run from July 1, 2024, to June 30, 2025, which offered free admission to veterans with a specific federal recreational lands pass. To support this new program, the legislature is appropriating $300,000 from the General Fund to the Department of Veterans and Military Affairs, which will then pass through the funds to the Division of State Parks to help cover the cost of the discounted veteran passes. The bill will take effect on May 7, 2025, and extends the repeal date for this veteran park access program to July 1, 2028.
