This bill establishes the Mississippi Hospice and Palliative Care Study and Advisory Committee, a 13-member group tasked with conducting a comprehensive study of hospice and palliative care services in the state. The committee will include representatives from the state legislature, health departments, hospice providers, medical professionals, and healthcare advocacy organizations. Its primary objectives are to identify gaps in end-of-life care services, assess workforce challenges, evaluate the financial impact of hospice care, and examine care provisions for incarcerated individuals. The committee will specifically investigate how hospice and palliative care can reduce hospital visits, improve service delivery in rural and underserved communities, and develop recommendations for policy and process improvements. By December 1, 2025, the committee is required to submit a detailed report to state leadership, including findings on service availability, cost-savings data, identified service gaps, and recommended legislative or administrative actions. The committee will automatically dissolve on July 1, 2026, unless the Legislature chooses to reauthorize it, and members will serve without compensation but may receive travel expense reimbursements.
