This bill creates two new sections of Missouri law aimed at improving workplace security for health care professionals. The first section requires the Department of Health and Senior Services to develop an education and awareness program that promotes respect for health care professionals and informs the public about legal consequences of assaulting them. The second section establishes a Hospital Security Fund that allows hospitals to receive state reimbursements for investments in physical security enhancements and security personnel over a two to three-year period following the law's effective date. Specifically, hospitals can be reimbursed for spending on new physical property, security technology that complies with the National Defense Authorization Act, and payroll costs for security personnel. The fund will be maintained by the state treasurer, can receive money from various sources including appropriations and gifts, and any unused funds will not revert to the general revenue fund. The fund and its reimbursement provisions are set to expire on August 28, 2028, and all reimbursements are subject to available state appropriations.
