This bill requires Pennsylvania school entities (including public, charter, and nonpublic schools) to annually provide eating disorder awareness and education information to parents, guardians, and key school personnel for students in grades six through twelve. The bill establishes an Eating Disorders Advisory Committee composed of representatives from various educational and medical organizations to develop educational materials and recommendations about eating disorders. The committee will focus on identifying warning signs, risk factors, and resources related to eating disorders, including topics such as body image disorders, compulsive exercise, and orthorexia nervosa. The Department of Education, in conjunction with the Department of Health, will be responsible for creating and distributing these educational materials, which must be available in multiple languages and posted on the department's website. Committee members will serve without compensation and will meet at least once per school year to review and update the information. The bill aims to increase awareness and provide guidance to schools and families about recognizing and addressing eating disorders among students. The new requirements will take effect 30 days after the bill is signed into law.
