An Act To Authorize Emergency Medical Technicians Certified By The State Department Of Health Who Are Part Of A Law Enforcement Agency's Special Response Team (srt) Or Special Weapons And Tactics (swat) Team Who Have Undergone Extensive Training And Certifications Within The Scope Of Tactical Emergency Casualty Care (tecc) And/or Tactical Combat Casualty Care (tccc) To Perform Certain Advanced Medical Procedures Under Medical Control; To Bring Forward Sections 41-60-11 And 41-60-13, Mississippi Code Of 1972, Which Relate To Emergency Medical Technicians Providing Advanced Life Support Services, For The Purposes Of Possible Amendment; And For Related Purposes.

AI Summary

This bill authorizes certain Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs) who are part of law enforcement Special Response Teams (SRT) or Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) Teams to perform advanced medical procedures under medical control, provided they have undergone extensive training in Tactical Emergency Casualty Care (TECC) and/or Tactical Combat Casualty Care (TCCC). Specifically, these specially trained EMTs will be permitted to perform medical procedures such as airway management using various techniques like nasopharyngeal and oropharyngeal airways, chest needle decompression to relieve tension pneumothorax, intravenous vascular access for fluid replacement, and other advanced medical procedures as specified by the State Department of Health. The bill requires the State Board of Health to adopt rules and regulations to implement these provisions, and it brings forward existing sections of Mississippi law related to emergency medical services to potentially amend them. The provisions of this bill will take effect on July 1, 2025, and are designed to enhance the medical capabilities of specialized law enforcement teams in emergency situations by allowing highly trained EMTs to provide more comprehensive medical care.
