This bill provides a $945,000 appropriation from the Minnesota state general fund to Independent School District No. 99 in Esko for the removal and replacement of American Indian mascots and related imagery, in compliance with Minnesota Statutes section 121A.041. The funding will cover costs associated with removing American Indian-themed imagery from various school facilities and equipment, including athletic uniforms, clocks, school signage, tribute markers, chairs, tables, entryway and gymnasium flooring, athletic field artificial turf, and gymnasium wall mats. To be eligible for reimbursement, the school district must have incurred these expenses on or after June 1, 2023. The appropriation is a one-time funding allocation available until June 30, 2028, and is intended to help the school district comply with state regulations regarding the use of American Indian mascots and imagery in educational settings.
