This bill proposes to change how probation services are funded in Nebraska, with a phased transition to full state funding beginning between July 1, 2026, and July 1, 2027. Before the implementation date, counties will continue to pay these expenses and be reimbursed proportionally based on population and probation case volumes. The bill requires county officials to work collaboratively with the State Court Administrator to ensure a smooth transition, and it gives the Supreme Court the authority to adopt rules to implement these changes. Additionally, the bill makes a minor technical amendment to update a reference to a subsection number in an existing statute about court interpreters.
