The resolution highlights that Falun Dafa was introduced in 1992 by Mr. Li Hongzhi in China and quickly spread, with an estimated 100 million practitioners by 1998, and now practiced in over 114 countries. It emphasizes the practice's core principles of Truthfulness, Compassion, and Forbearance, which practitioners believe lead to improved health, inner peace, and personal enlightenment. The resolution also acknowledges the challenges Falun Dafa practitioners face in China, where the practice is banned, and celebrates its introduction to New York in 1996, where it has since grown to include hundreds of practitioners who offer free workshops in various community settings. By passing this resolution, the legislative body aims to recognize the positive impact of Falun Dafa on millions of people worldwide and formally commemorate its annual celebration day.
