This bill modifies reporting requirements for the Tennessee Comptroller of the Treasury related to the Tennessee Literacy Success Act. Specifically, the bill changes the frequency and nature of reports about foundational literacy skills plans from annual to every three years. Under the new provisions, the Comptroller's office will continue to review literacy skills plans submitted by school districts, examining whether they were initially approved or denied by the state Department of Education and noting any required revisions. The Department of Education must provide any information requested by the Comptroller's office promptly. The Comptroller will now submit a comprehensive report every three years to the chairs of the Senate and House education committees and the state board of education, and will also publish this report on the Comptroller's website. This change reduces the reporting burden while maintaining oversight of literacy education efforts in Tennessee. The bill takes effect immediately upon becoming law.
