This bill establishes a comprehensive dentist support program aimed at addressing dental care in underserved areas of New York State. The program consists of two main components: a loan repayment program and a practice support program, each with up to $1.2 million and $3 million in annual funding respectively, from fiscal year 2025 to 2028. The funds will be allocated regionally, with one-third going to New York City and two-thirds to the rest of the state. For the loan repayment program, dentists (including those in general, pediatric, or other in-demand specialties) can receive up to $50,000 per year for three years if they commit to practicing in an underserved area, with priority given to those trained in teaching hospitals. The practice support program provides funding to help dentists establish or join practices in underserved communities, with preference for those trained in teaching hospitals.
