Bill Summary
AN ACT relating to the operation of certain off-highway vehicles on certain roadways.
AI Summary
This bill allows certain types of off-highway vehicles (specifically recreational off-highway vehicles with side-by-side seating and utility vehicles) to be operated on highways with speed limits of 65 miles per hour or less, provided they are not interstate or limited access highways. To be legally operated on these roadways, the off-highway vehicle must display a license plate issued under existing state transportation code. The bill represents an expansion of where off-highway vehicles can be driven, giving owners of these vehicles more flexibility in their transportation options. The legislation would take effect immediately if it receives a two-thirds vote in the Texas legislature, or otherwise will become effective on September 1, 2025. By creating this new section in the Transportation Code, the bill provides a clear legal framework for the limited road use of certain off-highway vehicles that were previously restricted from highway operation.
