AI Summary

This bill amends the Consumer Fraud and Deceptive Business Practices Act to establish a grace period for Internet domain names in Illinois. Specifically, the bill defines an Internet domain name as a unique hierarchical reference to an Internet host or service, typically composed of character strings separated by periods. The key provision requires that when a person (such as a domain registrar or host) has registered a domain name for someone located in Illinois, they cannot sell or lease that domain name to another party for 5 years after the original buyer or lessee ends their ownership or lease. Furthermore, the original buyer or lessee retains the right to repurchase or renew the domain name during this 5-year period at the same cost they would have paid if their original ownership or lease agreement had not ended. Any violation of these provisions is considered an unlawful practice under the Consumer Fraud and Deceptive Business Practices Act, potentially subjecting the violator to legal penalties.
