AI Summary

This bill creates a pathway for Certified Registered Nurse Practitioners (CRNPs) in Mississippi to practice to the full extent of their education and training when providing services to Medicaid recipients. To be eligible, a CRNP must have an active, unrestricted nursing license, have accumulated at least 10,000 hours of documented clinical practice (with no more than 25% of those hours completed through virtual or telehealth services), and submit a complete application to the Mississippi Board of Nursing. The board will develop a rigorous review process that includes comprehensive evaluation of the CRNP's patient outcomes, professional conduct, and peer review. If granted full practice authority, the CRNP will be enrolled as a Medicaid provider and eligible for direct reimbursement for covered services. The bill modifies existing nursing practice laws to accommodate this new provision, allowing CRNPs greater autonomy in their medical practice while maintaining professional standards and oversight. The new regulations will take effect on July 1, 2025, giving the Board of Nursing time to develop the necessary application and review processes.
