Bill Summary

This bill requires a person applying for a driver’s license or nonoperator’s identification card, including for renewal of either, to provide the person’s status as a citizen of the United States or status as a noncitizen authorized to be in the United States. The department of transportation (DOT) must include a person’s status on the back side of the person’s driver’s license or nonoperator’s identification card, as applicable. The bill applies to driver’s licenses and nonoperator’s identification cards issued as a result of an application made, including for renewal, on or after the effective date of the bill.
