This bill amends the Utah state education code by adding definitions for two important terms related to medical services in educational settings: "extraordinary costs" and "medically fragile student". Specifically, "extraordinary costs" is defined as expenses that go beyond standard educational costs and are necessitated by the need for specialized medical services and equipment. A "medically fragile student" is defined as a student who requires intensive medical care and has a medical condition that significantly impairs their ability to attend regular classes without specialized medical services. These new definitions are being added to Section 53G-9-102, which was previously marked as "Reserved", and will become effective on May 7, 2025. By providing clear definitions, the bill aims to create a more precise framework for understanding and addressing the unique medical needs of students who require additional support in the educational system.
