This bill amends Mississippi state law to allow disabled veterans who are rated as having 100% permanent service-connected disability by the Veterans' Administration or United States Department of Veterans Affairs to have their vehicle license tags labeled as "100% Disabled Veteran" or "Disabled Veteran". Currently, disabled veterans can purchase license plates or tags for motor vehicles and motorcycles at a reduced cost of $1.00, with provisions for those with 100% permanent disability or at least 70% nonpermanent service-connected disability. The new provision specifically enables these veterans to have their status visibly recognized on their license tags. The bill maintains existing rules about the number of tags that can be issued (up to two for motor vehicles and one for motorcycles) and continues to provide tax exemptions for these vehicles. The changes will take effect on July 1, 2025, and aim to provide additional recognition and honor to disabled veterans by allowing them to prominently display their service-connected disability status on their vehicle registration tags.
