This bill amends North Dakota's laws regarding statements of interests filed by candidates and appointees with the secretary of state, expanding disclosure requirements and filing procedures. Candidates for elective office and individuals appointed by the governor to state agencies must now file a comprehensive statement of interests that includes detailed information about their and their spouse's income sources, business interests, associations, and professional relationships. New provisions require candidates to file an initial statement when submitting candidacy documents, with an annual statement required while holding office. The bill adds a requirement to disclose sales of goods or services over $5,000 to political subdivisions or state agencies from businesses in which the candidate or spouse has a significant ownership interest. The secretary of state must now publish these statements on a public website and maintain them for the duration of the person's term of office. Additionally, a candidate's name can be removed from the ballot if they fail to correctly file or correct their statement of interests before the 64th day before an election, and late filings will be subject to specific fees.
