Bill Summary

Reinserts the provisions of the introduced bill with the following changes. Provides that, if a lifeguard candidate participates in the Junior Lifeguard Program hosted by the Chicago Park District, then the candidate shall be permitted to serve as a lifeguard regardless of the candidate's age. Provides that the Chicago Park District must provide an additional 30 hours of open-water training before a new hire or current employee lifeguard may serve as a lifeguard at a beach on the Chicago lakefront. Effective January 1, 2026.

AI Summary

This bill amends the Chicago Park District Act by establishing a new age restriction for lifeguards working at beaches along the Chicago lakefront. Specifically, the bill prohibits the Chicago Park District from hiring lifeguards who are younger than 19 years old. This means that individuals must be at least 19 years of age to be eligible for lifeguard positions at Chicago's lakefront beaches. The legislation aims to potentially increase safety and ensure more mature and experienced personnel are responsible for beach and water safety. By setting a higher minimum age requirement, the bill suggests that older lifeguards may be better equipped to handle the critical responsibilities of water rescue and public safety.
