AI Summary

This bill establishes the Equal Athletic Opportunities Act in Georgia, which sets clear rules for student participation in interscholastic athletic activities based on biological sex. The legislation defines key terms like "sex" as a person's reproductive biology and genetics at birth, and introduces specific guidelines for athletic team participation. Schools are now required to designate teams as either male, female, or coed, with strict prohibitions on male students participating in female athletic events and vice versa. The bill mandates that schools provide equal athletic opportunities by considering factors such as equipment, scheduling, coaching, facilities, and funding for both sexes. Schools must also designate an employee to coordinate compliance, adopt grievance procedures for complaints, and potentially face consequences like loss of postseason athletic participation or state funding if they fail to comply with the law. The bill aims to ensure competitive fairness and student safety by establishing clear rules about athletic participation based on biological sex, with provisions for creating comparable opportunities across different sports and school systems.
