AI Summary

This bill, named the "Daniel D. Podsiadly, Jr. Act," introduces several key provisions to support and protect peace officers in Georgia. It defines an "eligible peace officer" as a full-time or part-time law enforcement employee who maintains public order, makes arrests, and complies with the Georgia Peace Officer Standards and Training Act, specifically focusing on those who suffer disability during direct interactions with criminals. The bill requires the State Board of Workers' Compensation to notify the Department of Administrative Services when they believe an injured worker is an eligible peace officer, and mandates that law enforcement agencies inform such employees about the Georgia State Indemnification Fund and temporary disability compensation programs within ten days of a potentially disabling injury. Most notably, the bill increases the indemnification award for state public school personnel in the event of death from $75,000 to $150,000, offering recipients the option to receive the payment in equal installments over five years or as a lump sum calculated at a 6% annual interest rate. The legislation aims to provide enhanced financial protection and support for law enforcement and public school personnel who are injured or killed in the line of duty, becoming effective upon the Governor's approval.
