AI Summary
This bill modifies Mississippi's education laws to require specific religious and patriotic practices in public and charter schools, beginning in the 2025-2026 school year. The legislation mandates that a framed copy of the Ten Commandments, at least 16 inches wide and 20 inches tall, be displayed in every classroom, and that a nondenominational prayer be said over the PA system and in each classroom at the start of each school day. Additionally, the bill requires a U.S. flag at least 36 inches long and 24 inches tall to be displayed in each classroom. While the bill emphasizes religious expression, it also explicitly states that no student or faculty member will be compelled to participate in prayer or the Pledge of Allegiance, and they may remain seated and silent during these activities. The legislation protects students' rights to express religious views in academic work without discrimination and ensures that staff and faculty are free from reprisal based on their religious beliefs. The bill aims to provide a framework for voluntary religious expression in public schools while maintaining protections for individual choice and constitutional rights.
