This bill establishes a formal apprenticeship program for barbers in Wyoming, allowing registered barbers to train up to two apprentices at a time in their barbershops. To qualify for a barber certification through this apprenticeship, individuals must complete a minimum of 1,600 hours of training over one to two years in a licensed barbershop, receive at least 36 hours of safety and sanitation training, possess a high school diploma or equivalent, be authorized to work in the United States, pay an apprenticeship registration fee, and pass a board examination. Apprentices are initially prohibited from practicing on customers until they complete a board-specified number of training hours, pass a written examination on sanitary practices, and demonstrate basic competency. The Board of Barber Examiners is tasked with creating rules to implement the program, with most provisions becoming effective on July 1, 2025.
