This bill extends the sunset date for the Interstate Compact on Detainers (ICD) to June 30, 2033. The Interstate Compact on Detainers is an agreement between states that provides a legal framework for handling criminal proceedings involving prisoners in different jurisdictions, allowing for the transfer of prisoners for prosecution or to resolve outstanding criminal charges. Specifically, the bill removes a previous provision (subdivision 26) from Section 4-29-246(a) and adds a new section to Tennessee law that explicitly states the Interstate Compact on Detainers will terminate on June 30, 2033, unless it is continued, reestablished, or restructured. Additionally, the bill includes a provision that any state governmental entities created during calendar year 2031 will also terminate on the same date. The act takes effect immediately upon becoming law, as determined by the Tennessee General Assembly to be in the interest of public welfare.
