This bill modifies Kansas law regarding travel insurance classification by allowing insurers more flexibility in how they file and categorize certain travel insurance policies. Specifically, the bill permits travel insurance that provides coverage for sickness, accidents, disability, or death during travel to be classified and filed under either the accident and health insurance line or the inland marine insurance line. Previously, such policies were restricted to being filed only under the inland marine insurance line. The bill maintains existing provisions that travel insurance can be offered as individual, group, or blanket policies, and allows eligibility and underwriting standards to be developed based on travel protection plans designed for specific marketing or distribution channels, provided these standards meet the state's underwriting standards for inland marine insurance. The bill will take effect upon publication in the Kansas register, and it repeals the existing version of the statute, replacing it with the updated language that provides insurers with this additional filing option.
