This bill amends Section 25-31-5 of the Mississippi Code to increase the number of legal assistants (also known as assistant district attorneys) in the Seventh Circuit Court District from twelve to fourteen. Specifically, the bill modifies the existing law to add two more full-time legal assistants to the district, with the change taking effect on July 1, 2025. The bill allows for flexibility in funding these additional positions, noting that counties within the circuit court district can pay all or part of the salaries through board of supervisors' resolutions or through various funding sources including office-generated funds, county or municipal funds, federal funds, private grants, or interlocal cooperative agreements. The district attorney is also authorized to assign duties to these legal assistants regardless of the funding source, and must report the details of any supplemental funding to the county board of supervisors and the Department of Finance and Administration.
