AI Summary
This bill revises provisions related to advanced practice registered nurses (APRNs) in Mississippi, modifying definitions and collaborative practice requirements. The legislation makes several key changes: it expands and clarifies definitions of different types of advanced nursing practice roles, including certified nurse practitioners, clinical nurse specialists, and certified registered nurse anesthetists. Importantly, the bill introduces a mechanism for APRNs to become exempt from mandatory collaborative relationships with physicians or dentists after completing a specified number of clinical practice hours (5,000 hours for most APRNs and 8,000 hours for nurse anesthetists). The bill also prohibits physicians or dentists from charging APRNs for maintaining a collaborative relationship and adds new definitions such as "collaboration" and "clinical practice hours". Additionally, the bill updates language around prescriptive authority, licensure processes, and practice guidelines for advanced practice nurses, aiming to provide more flexibility and autonomy for APRNs while maintaining professional standards. These changes are intended to address potential barriers to healthcare access and support the professional development of advanced practice nurses in Mississippi, with the new provisions set to take effect on July 1, 2025.
