This bill establishes escalating penalties for convenience stores that sell tobacco or cannabis products without proper licensing. Specifically, if a store is caught selling unlicensed tobacco or cannabis products, the penalties increase with each subsequent offense within a twelve-month period. For a second offense, the store must pay a fine that is twice the amount of the initial fine. On the third offense, the store will pay a fine three times the initial amount and must close for five days. For a fourth offense, the store again pays a tripled fine and must close for thirty days. If a fifth offense occurs within the twelve-month period, the convenience store will be required to permanently cease all operations. These penalties are designed to strongly discourage unlicensed sales of tobacco and cannabis products by creating increasingly severe consequences for repeated violations, ultimately threatening the store's ability to continue doing business if they persistently ignore licensing requirements.
