AI Summary
This bill authorizes pharmacists in Mississippi to provide ivermectin to adult patients (18 years and older) through a collaborative pharmacy practice agreement, which is a formal arrangement between pharmacists and authorized healthcare practitioners that allows pharmacists to perform certain clinical services. Under this bill, pharmacists must follow specific procedures established by the Board of Pharmacy, including providing patients with a risk assessment tool and a standardized factsheet about ivermectin that explains its uses, potential risks, and proper administration. Pharmacists can either dispense the medication directly or refer patients to a pharmacy that can. The bill also provides legal protections for pharmacists and practitioners, making them immune from disciplinary actions or civil liability when acting in good faith and with reasonable care, except in cases of gross negligence or willful misconduct. Additionally, pharmacists are permitted to charge an administrative fee for these services beyond the medication's standard dispensing costs. The law is set to take effect on July 1, 2025, and will be codified in the Mississippi Code of 1972, specifically in Chapter 21, Title 73.
