AI Summary
This bill prohibits the administration of mRNA (messenger ribonucleic acid) vaccines in livestock, aquacultural specimens, poultry, produce, and other food products intended for human consumption in Mississippi. The legislation defines an mRNA vaccine as a substance that stimulates antibody production by introducing mRNA corresponding to a viral protein. Any person who administers such a vaccine would be guilty of a misdemeanor. The bill also amends several existing sections of Mississippi law to incorporate this definition and provide additional context, including allowing producers to label meat products as "mRNA free" if the animals were not given an mRNA vaccine. The law would take effect on July 1, 2025, and aims to give farmers and food producers clarity about the use of mRNA vaccine technology in food production. The bill appears to be a proactive measure addressing concerns about the use of mRNA technology in agriculture and food processing, potentially reflecting ongoing debates about vaccine technologies and their application in the food supply chain.
