This bill amends Section 45-13-9 of the Mississippi Code to modify the authorized retail sales period for fireworks. Specifically, the legislation changes the end date of the summer fireworks sales period from the fifth day of July to the twelfth day of July, while maintaining the other existing restrictions on fireworks sales. The current law already prohibits fireworks sales before June 15th and after July 5th (now changing to July 12th), as well as between January 3rd and December 4th of each year. The bill also preserves other important safety provisions, such as the prohibition on selling fireworks to anyone under 12 years old and restrictions on discharging fireworks near churches, hospitals, schools, motor vehicles, or fireworks storage areas. The changes will take effect on July 1, 2025, providing retailers and consumers with advance notice of the modified sales period.
